the new POS

Some funny comments about the new POS and what appears to be problems with Lotus

(crapwagon.com 9-3-11)

-JayInAtlanta
agreed. that video was pathetic. they ended up with essentially the same looks and sound as the current fecal chariot.

-Brake L8
Agreed. And CEO Bull thinks that's gonna make the fans come running through the gates to see their races?!? Most won't be able to tell a difference! What a complete waste. They might as well just run their old turd cars and save themselves the money, because that car isn't going to bring a single new fan into the series.

-Road America
The only way I can see that the .1RL had any chance of growing was to put together a car that looks and sounds proper. Epic fail. 'specially when the most logical 2.65l engine formula already exists. Last check still shows that I havent been dragged kicking and screaming or breaking down the gates to get near the new 'race car'.

Also the term "Fecal Chariot" just cost me a keyboard and a perfectly good glass of orange juice. :-) Thanks Jay!

-last2brake
Yep.

The new POS is the FecalChariot. The FC of the irl.

-scorpion
This just in, Lotus is in hiding.

"I can’t get them to return my call,” one IZOD IndyCar Series owner said. “Then, when I did get ahold of them, we had a conference call arranged and they never showed up. I’ve sent emails, left voicemails and they either don’t respond or take their sweet time getting back to me. Bottom line: I don’t have an engine deal yet.”

Interesting that Honda is adamant about supplying only their contractual 40% of the field. Want to bet if they supply more, they get to charge more.

If Lotus defaults, Berkman says Honda could help to fill the void, but the costs to do so would need to be satisfied by a party other than Honda.

And just who do you think that other party may be. The .irl? Please say it ain't so!

Reading further it is apparent that both Honda and Chevy will expect a higher lease price if they are asked to supply additional teams. Up to $300,000 more. Thus, the C teams, will get stuck even harder if they pay or the series will have to make up the shortfall. Either way, not an entirely equitable arrangement.

Honda's Berkman even suggests that there will be some teams who will not get to play in 2012, but the door could open for them in 2013. And where does he lay the blame for all this mess? Right in the lap of the series leaders who essentially wrote the rules, rather than negotiate a balanced agreement that is fair for all.

-Brake L8
Lotus is still trying to ensure they have enough cash to build the road cars they need in order to stay in business for the next 5 years, not to mention fund an F1 team. You really think Spindycar is important to them right now?? For what? Maybe they finally figured out what most have known for years...that they won't sell a single extra road car no matter how much exposure and/or success they have in Spindycar. No one cares, or is watching. And Spindycar's fan demographics don't point to Lotus buyers...Lotus would be better off with a GT car in ALMS or something. Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Corvette, Porsche, Jaguar...that's who Lotus is competing against in the world marketplace. Not trying to outsell Honda in Accords and minivan's...

-CHAMPCAR1
Thats because Lotus was never in Mindycars. FKK probably thought he could get their involvement into supplying engines thru Cosworth, but the current situation works for them because they have no skin in the game. All they are doing is putting some Lotus decals on a Honda powered crapwagon. Now the EARL is counting on them providing some sort of engineering resources to the league and they can't be bothered. They have more important obligations like Lemans, F1 and making some road cars.

-mountainstar
I remember when the Lotus deal was first announced and the gomers were bouncing in the air like it was some $4 million a year deal.

All I had to do was check around and find that no money changed hands at all. All it was, was Lotus sending over 3 engineers on race weekends and doing a bit of minor engineering work in the UK. The main squeeze was kk trying to get Lotus to sub out some work to Cosworth involving road car production and other possibilities. Only this year did a small sum of money change hands. Also the perk for the team was to be able to have the car in Lotus colors for marketing and PR purposes, which looks and sounds a hell of a lot better than kv racing.

Lotus is overextended and many rumors of disharmony are coming to the surface with Dany Bahar's over ambition. Lotus is spending big and taking in little. We all know how those stories end up.

-CHAMPCAR1
Lotus got rejected for some government loans so that could be the reason why they are cutting non-essential motorsports like the EARL. Dany Bahar chewed off more than he could deliver by promising to throw Lotus money at almost every racing series out there...Looks like they did an engineering analysis and realized that the EARL involvement would not have delivered.

-DirtDevil1
sounding like Berkman & Kent already know Lotus V6 will be no-show.
Honda & GM planning to cash in, just like Firestone did...
Article mentions fitting spec chassis with tightly regulated (spec) turbos engines,
pretty much sums up how IRL racing gonna go 2012 and beyond.
further,
where's all Indy 500 engines for rest of field??

33 is just a number..

On the state of American Open Wheel Racing

(by Elmersboy crapwagon.com 4-23-11)

I think it's not just a question of the Hatfields and McCoys perpetually fighting. It's been so long that no one else cares, and they've moved on to other things that fully engage their attention. At best, AOWR [American Open Wheel Racing] is like someone you haven't seen since high school calling and asking to come over.

Corporate hospitality in doldrums at Speedway

(Anthony Schoettle ibj.com 5-1-10)

The month of May, once an Indianapolis institution culminating with The Race on Memorial Day weekends, has come to this: empty hotel rooms and corporate hospitality suites.

Unfathomable just a decade ago, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is trimming demands on hospitality packages in a scramble to fill vacancies and preserve what IMS officials call “a major profit center.”

Carburetion Day, May 28, is sold out, but hospitality vacancies are available every other day despite the fact that track activities have been compressed from a full month to two weeks.

Speedway officials for the first time are selling smaller, one-day hospitality packages, said George Hobbs, IMS’ hospitality client services manager.

Gasoline Alley Club has been launched to allow individual, one-day suite sales. Brickyard Club is designed for parties as small as six people, including a table in the hospitality area, catering services and grandstand tickets.

“Traditionally, suites have only been rented by the month, and we haven’t offered anything specifically for smaller parties,” said Bob Guptill, Speedway sales account executive. “We’re reacting to the market.”

Corporate hospitality at IMS is up 30 percent this year. But that isn’t saying much, motorsports business experts caution, considering that 2009 was dismally eroded by the recession on top of the ongoing decline in open-wheel racing.

This year’s increase is on par with what Los Angeles-based RazorGator, one of the nation’s largest corporate hospitality providers, has seen at other events.

RazorGator’s corporate hospitality business at this year’s Final Four in Indianapolis was up 60 percent over last year, according to John Wallace, RazorGator general manager and vice president. Hospitality was up 40 percent at the Super Bowl and 20 percent at The Master’s, Wallace said.

“Even with those increases, it’s going to be another 24 months before we get back to 2008 levels,” Wallace said. “And I suspect the same is true for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”

Much at stake

Given the track’s overall impact on local tourism, much rides on the Speedway’s attempt to overhaul its corporate hospitality arm.

“Historically, the events at the track have been a huge driver for the entire region’s hospitality and tourism business,” said Don Welsh, Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association CEO.

Welsh added that hotel room nights have declined more than 20 percent in the past five years for the Indianapolis 500 and other events at the fabled Brickyard.

Speedway officials are optimistic the new offerings will increase hospitality business at the track long term.

One-day packages falling on non-race days are available for as little as $1,750 and a race-day table for six is available for $2,400. One-day packages go up to $60,000 for parties of 600.

The IMS has launched some traditional advertising to publicize the offerings, but is relying primarily on word-of-mouth and referrals.

The sunny outlook assumes the economy, not the fading popularity of open-wheel racing, is hurting hospitality, said Richard Sheehan, a University of Notre Dame economist and author of several books on professional sports operations.

Despite the open-wheel split fathered by former IMS Chairman Tony George in 1996, corporate hospitality remained a vital part of the Speedway’s overall revenue. Sports business experts credit hospitality with about 15 percent of the track’s overall revenue in May—$5 million to $10 million.

In 2000, Speedway officials smartly used infrastructure built to host the Formula One race later in the year to increase the facility’s hospitality inventory during May.

“You can’t overemphasize the impact that one event, the Indianapolis 500, has had,” said Mark Rosentraub, a former IUPUI dean and sports economist who studied the Speedway’s economic impact in 2000.

That impact spread well beyond the gates at 16th Street and Georgetown Road.

“The entire region—from hotels to restaurants and more—became fat off the activities at the track,” said Tim Frost, president of Frost Motorsports, a Chicago-based motorsports business consultancy. “There are very few venues like that anywhere in the nation that can rival the Speedway’s economic impact in the region where it resides.”

The tens of millions of dollars that flowed from 300,000 race fans filling IMS each May obscured the impact of corporate entertainment.

“Corporate hospitality is what brings in many of the high rollers,” Frost said. “It’s what fills up the most expensive hotels and restaurants. When you can get that much money coming from a concentrated area, it’s definitely a revenue stream you want to hang on to.”

In his 2000 study, Rosentraub concluded the Indianapolis 500 generated $336.6 million for the region; the Brickyard 400, $219.5 million; and the U.S. Grand Prix Formula One race, $170.8 million.

For comparison’s sake, this year’s Final Four at Lucas Oil Stadium had a $50 million impact.

Multiple hits

Corporate hospitality at IMS remained relatively strong through the early years of the Indy Racing League’s split with Champ Car.

But sponsors began slipping away due to the split and the rise of NASCAR.

The Speedway has taken two other big hits. After 2007, the F1 race departed and was replaced by the MotoGP motorcycle race, which has a much smaller corporate fan base. A year later, the bottom fell out of the economy.

Although Speedway officials would not detail the decline in their business, sports business experts said overall corporate hospitality at sporting events nationwide fell 30 percent to 45 percent between 2006 and 2009.

Glenn Brooks, vice president of General Hotels Corp., which owns and operates Crown Plaza locations downtown and at the airport as well as five other hotels in the area, said his firm has seen a dip in hotel demand from the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400.

“Those events are still major, major business generators, but at the same time, we’ve seen continual year-over-year declines for the last five or 10 years,” Brooks said.

Nights before the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 are always booked, Brooks said. However, he added, gone are the days when local hotels could command three nights or more. And the impact from the MotoGP race on hotels is lagging far behind what the F1 race generated.

When it comes to the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400, Brooks said downtown hotels fill first, followed by those at the airport. As a result, suburban hotels have taken the biggest hit.

“Our downtown hotels are the only ones we’re able to get three-night minimums for the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400,” Brooks said. “And there just isn’t the demand for corporate entertaining that there used to be. We feel it on a number of different levels, from meetings and parties hosted to rooms booked and our hotel restaurants and catering business.”

In the 1990s and early 2000s, he said, the Indianapolis 500 was unrivaled in its impact to area hotels and restaurants.

“Now we see a similar economic impact from an event like the Final Four or even some city-wide multi-day conventions,” Brooks said.

Speedway still a driver

Despite the swoon, Indianapolis remains a relatively vital hotel market.

Nationally, hotel occupancy rates have dropped below 58 percent, according to Smith Travel Research. While hotels in Marion and the surrounding counties have had occupancy rates in the 55 percent range the last two years, according to Smith Travel Research, downtown hotels have been near 70-percent occupancy in 2008 and 2009.

“A lot of that has to do with the events at the Speedway,” said ICVA’s Welsh.

John Livengood, president of the Indiana Restaurant & Hospitality Association, thinks central Indiana’s hotel occupancy and restaurant business has “stood up a lot better” than other similar-size cities during the recession due to activities at the track.

And, he added, there’s another intangible.

“Without the year-in, year-out activities at the Speedway, we wouldn’t have all these hotel rooms and restaurants that this city boasts,” Livengood said. “We wouldn’t be in a position to bid for events like the FFA Convention, the [NCAA] Final Four and Super Bowl.

“Without the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, we simply wouldn’t have a hospitality industry that is big enough or strong enough to compete for these other events.”

(posted on 11-19-08 after the IndyCar Series announced that they did not come up with a title sponsor for the 2009 season.)

-boomerblaste
Efforts to land an Indy Racing League title sponsor have turned to 2010. Just two months ago, IRL officials said a deal appeared imminent. In October, the economy stifled negotiations. Now, almost all hope is gone for landing a title sponsor any time in 2009.

“Unless a miracle falls out of the sky, I don’t think we’re going to sign a title sponsorship deal for 2009,” said Zak Brown, president of Just Marketing International, which was hired by the IRL to lead the title sponsor hunt. “We’re still hammering away at it. We’re not going to stop working just because of the economy. But marketers are being very cautious with their budgets.”

In early September, Brown promised to land an IRL title sponsor by Jan. 1, and said an eight-figure annual deal “was on the doorstep.”

“I’m just glad I didn’t make a promise to run naked down the home stretch at Indy if the deal didn’t come through,” Brown said.

Quelle surprise!

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

This is better than Lucy and the football. Every year the Idiot Grandson's minions tee up the football (i.e. upcoming title sponsor) and every year the TrackForum Gomers elbow each other out of the way for the chance to kick a field goal.

Will they ever learn? Naw; otherwise they wouldn't be TF Gomers.

I think being an EARL fan requires the complete lack of long-term memory.

-joetanto
Water is wet. Grass is green. The Firl misses out on that elusive title sponsorship.

Damn. I really thought the IRL had it this year

I wonder how long it will be until the US government will have to bail FTG and the Speedway out. If that ever happens, I'm moving.

-TheMapMan
Can bullshit evaporate?

-scorpion
According to the gomer minions this is all due to the down turn in the economy. The Stranger is right, you can't have a long term memory and be a gomer. Sane folks would be asking, "If it's just the economy, what happened in '03, 04, '05, '06, or '07?"

(posted on 11-17-08 after the IndyCar Series announced they would be using Brazilian made ethanol to fuel their cars starting in 2009.)

-boomberblaste
The Indy Racing League will use Brazilian ethanol in the 2009 season.

IRL President Terry Angstadt signed a memorandum of understanding with the Brazilian agency promoting biofuels on Monday, securing a supply of the alternative, agriculture-based fuel for all 23 races next year.

The announcement was made by Brazilian Presidential chief of staff Dilma Rousseff at the start of a five-day international conference on biofuels in Brazil.

The IRL has been racing with 100 percent ethanol fuel since 2007.

With the deal, Brazilian producers will supply part of the nearly 454,200 litres of ethanol used in the IRL season. The exact amount was not specified.

In exchange, Brazilian ethanol and other products will be promoted during the races.

"The (deal) is part of the strategy to promote the Brazilian biofuel as a clean and sustainable energy," said Alessandro Teixeira, president of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency.

Ethanol burns cleaner and produces better mileage, even though it results in less horsepower in the IRL cars.

Brazil is the second largest ethanol producer in the world after the United States, and is the largest exporter of the fuel.

Sugarcane-based ethanol is cheaper to produce than the corn-based ethanol made in the United States.

This should be marvelous PR for anyone who hates the IRL and wants to turn the entire nation against them. I mean every man, woman and child in this country is against using foreign sources of fuel right now. Bwahahahhahahaha. What was all that Tony used to say?? All-american teams, all-american-drivers and all-american series??? I bet there is a printer making the "Indianapastan 500" banners printed up as we speak.

-chitwncartfreak
So I guess that means the Iowa race is out?? How would that look racing in the middle of an Iowa cornfield with Brazillian-made fuel.

Honestly, does ANYONE at the .1RL office have any common sense whatsoever? Normally, this would be a PR nightmare except for the small fact that nobody cares about the .1RL.

Helio will be in jail / not driving for Pimpski so let me be the first to predict that TONY KANAAN *from Brazil* will be the 2009 Crapwagon Champion.

It ain't going to be Moraes, it ain't going to be Junqueira, it ain't going to be Camara, it ain't going to be Meira, it ain't going to be Bernoldi (even if he has a seat), and it ain't going to be RafaMat. So that leaves K-Nose as the obvious choice to 'get the call'.

holy fock there's a lot of stupid Brazilians!

-Ronbo
Bottom line is that ethanol makes lousy fuel, and in the US, it is a big reason that food prices are climbing.

The reason for all of this can be nothing more than the idiot grandson needs foreign cash. He has failed to impress anybody here, and is running out of paying partners.

-boomerblaste
So what does the average American union worker know about corn based ethanol: it can damage your car and it's the cause for the price increase of food. Fits nicely with the promotion of earl.

-PhilipT631
The is sweet...TG just threw Rahole under the bus....Here is Rahole is hand delivered Enthanol to the IRL, major sponsor for Rahole and the IRL and now FTG threw Rahole under the bus.

FTG has screwed FKK by telling Aussiland to go bye bye and now Rahole....so which former Champcar team is FTG after now...quite frankly I hope it's Carl Haas....well I guess FTG already has by not allowing Haas to be the Dallara parts distributor....
I just wish that Jerry would pull the LBGP minutes before practice just like Dale Coyne used to announce his drivers minutes before the start of practice. Better yet withold the funds to the IRL for some breach of contract.

I'm in for the IRL to go under before the end of the 2010 season.

Word coming from series officials as they get ready to wrap up the season is that there is still a fair bit of interest from several engine makers interested in joining the series in coming years. Those manufacturers are especially interested in the 2011 engine specifications, which are expected to be released any day. The expectation is a four-cylinder turbo-charged engine. Since 1997, IRL cars have been powered by non turbo-charged engines. The return to turbo-charged engines is especially enticing to some engine makers.

There were 10 engine makers at a June 25 meeting about the specifications. The most keen interest now is coming from Alfa Romeo, Porsche, BMW and Audi.

-last2brake
If it's "fair", there will be no interest.

-The Stranger
If life was fair though, the IRL would have never existed. So, someone is interested in being the big fish in the small pond, you know, like Roger Penske was with Can-Am and is now in the gomer leegue.

-attenuator
"fair" interest in a series almost no one will follow. I'd say all of them make 2.0L turbo 4s for ALMS and LMS. The cars at least will appeal to their market demographics.

"Hate to say it.....

But. VW/Audi has all but signed on the dotted line!"

Why? Then again, WGAF!

-scorpion
"all but...." means they haven't yet. In the case of the .irl, just like title sponsors, it means never will. Just another "almost" for the .irl. Like, they are "almost" a racing series.

And even if audi/vw signs wgf! Do you think the few remaining gomers are going to Indy to watch some audi go round in circles?

-RealRaceFan
Just a good reason to never buy an Audi/VW...will never do so should they sign up with the Leeeegue of Incredible Wankers!!

-boomerblaste
neither will any gomer buy one. I have yet to see a honda with an IRL sticker on it. would be fun for one of you to go to Sparta and Newton and count the two or three hondas in the parking lots there.

-TheStranger
How many cars would be in an EARL parking lot anyway? As many as you'd see at a steel mill in Scranton, after the pink sheets have been handed out?

-cartcanuck
fair bit of interest = going home with your hands in your pockets and nothing else

fair bit of interest = nice butt, shame about the face....I need a drink if anything is going to happen

fair bit of interest = "I'm flattered, but I'd rather just be friends"

fair bit of interest = don't hold your breath

-the cup
"The most keen interest now is coming from Alfa Romeo, Porsche, BMW and Audi."

All European car makers and no US car makers? Sounds a little fishy to me. Especially Alfa Romeo, can you even buy one of those in the Indiana?

-TheStranger
The import tax for Michigan-built cars is already rather prohibitive in Marion County.

Here are the tv ratings results since TG's buyout of Champ Car for $10 million-

2007 ******* 2008
.7 Homestead .8
.6 St Pete .4
.4 Motegi .33
.3 Kansas .74
4.3 Indy 4.5
1.0 Milwaukee .8
.7 Texas 1.0
1.0 Watkins Glen 1.1
1.1 Iowa 1.1
.6 Richmond .9
1.7 Mid Ohio 1.3
Edmonton ( so bad, not listed)
.4 Nashville .5
.6 Kentucky .43
.6 Sonoma .41
1.0 Belle Isle .9
.9 Chicago .8

As a result, ABC has dropped coverage of 7 events to 5 events for 2009. They also allowed the Irl find another network for their remainder events and they wound up on an obscure cable channel next year.

Indycar has just released a report stating that ratings are up 21.4% over 2007.

Who's lying now?

-Laguna Tuna
But you are not a gomer math whiz. Of course you can't make that a 21.4% increase.

Maybe that was a 21.4% increase in weight of the average gomer viewer after gorging then sleeping through another earl season. Maybe it was a 21.4% increase in viewers killed brain cells while watching that crap. Maybe it's a 21.4% increase of fecal matter that the earl statisticians are are full of when they release this crap. Maybe we are 21.4% more skeptical of anything the earl releases.

-joetanto
Math? You give them too much by thinking they can even identify numbers and letters. I don't think they know much besides grunts.

-StarScream
the gomer logic and gomer math is weird, let me explain how they calculate the increase:

1. there's nothing wrong with adding percentages

2. gomers can't handle negative numbers. so when they see a "-" they think it's just a variation of the "+"

3. go back the last 10 years and you see a permanently decrease of the tv-ratings. an average hurl-event drops at least 20%/year. but when it drops only 10%, for the gomers it's an increase of 10%

4. now add all the percentages of the "less than 20% decrease" in 2008 compared to 2007 and you'll arrive at 21.4%, very simple, huh?

-Corner5
There will always be one thing the Irl will never be able to overcome.

It's the TG factor, its real and its matters.

TG killed OW when he created the Irl, that will be his legacy.

(posted 10-9-08 further reaction on F1 cancelling the Canadian Grand Prix)

-joetanto
Great read. As an American even I am depressed by the thought of Canada losing it's GP. Obviously Bernie has never been one to shed a tear for a lost venue, but with no North American rounds at all there is some major loss of credibility there. As much as I never believed NASCRAP would be able to get a foothold outside the US, this could be Bernie's biggest mistake.

Also, the idea of Pook bringing back the USGP sounds a bit optimistic at best. Either he will get a freebie from Bernie to get it off the ground or there is major corporate support. The only scenario I could see Bernie cutting him any slack would be a street race in Las Vegas which won't happen I would think.

-anthonyvop
F-1 is racing and Racing is a Business.

With TV ratings in the USA that barely register and sponsors who have no problems bypassing North America it is hard to question Bernie's decision.

If Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Honda and BMW wanted a race in North America there would be one.
Ferrari and Renault could care less. Ferrari already sells every car than can make and Renault doesn't sell here.
Toyota has jumped into NASCAR.
Honda has the IRl and ALMS(with Acura)
BMW is going to ALMS as well.
That leaves M/B and they seem happy without F-1 marketing in the US.

Look at some of the Major Sponsors in F-1.
Vodaphone, Santander, Alice, Petrobras, Mubadala, Kingfisher, Aigo. None major players in North America.
Marlboro can't advertise here. Red bull has NASCAR.

If the Manufacturers and Sponsors wanted a race in North Ameria it would happen.

-Violent Navy
I've always found the North American GP concept to be fascinating, really...considering what a Eurocentric sport F1 really is. I really do hope that F1 does return to your shores (particularly Montreal which I believe to be steeped in F1's heritage) but, correct me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't the Canadian GP really the only North American F1 race that worked? I think it'll be a long time realistically if F1 ever does come back to the US given the amount of disasters F1 has over there (ostrich races being more popular, tarmac melting etc).

Perhaps it was the constant changing of venues that did it. How many circuits has F1 raced over there? The Glen, Long Beach, Dallas Street, Phoenix Street, Indianapolis, Riverside, Sebring, Detroit and Vegas. That's a lot of different circuits and many of them are highlights of US open wheel racing and tin tops alike. I think the Glen had the best run of them all (20 years) and it was only ground effect that basically stopped them from going there, along with the track's lack of funding etc. But funding isn't everything- FTG paid for the honor of having the USGP held at Indianapolis, probably the best known (internationally, sadly) American circuit there is. Look what happened there.

I don't think there are any easy answers to this. F1's not a loved sport in the US for whatever reason (no decent US drivers or cars, NASCAR etc) so maybe the guys in Paris have finally given up on North America and are now focusing solely on "emerging markets".

I find it really sad.

How can a credible world championship not compete in North America and have only one race in the Western Hemisphere?

-TRPG
This on the day of the 30th anniversary of Gilles' first f1 win on the very same track. Focking as*holes...

-joetanto
No kidding. Then again who said F1 was credible.

-I luv chicken
Looks like I'm gong to have to buy more lottery tickets, to win and have enough money to get standing room at the Yaba - Daba, Grand Prix.

-Star Scream
this hurts further more when we see there are frakking boring races like hungaroring, imola or barcelona out of the discussion for switching/leaving

silverstone and montreal are some of the all time hi-lights and they can't be replaced

nice to have a night-street race in singapore, but what the hell has f-mullah countries to do with racing? they don't know a sheit about racing and they see us as infidels (means enemies)

f-abu dabi, f-bahrain, effing mullahs!!

and the most saddest part is that we no longer can say: "f-f1, we have a better international series with real racing and cooler/faster cars."

oh man, is there no "god of racing" there to help us (anymore)?

. . . just outright shillin'!

...Two more years of the ugly car with the loud engine and the Big 3 having everything their way is not endearing in any way, shape or form. But we’re stuck with it – nothing is going to change before 2011 and all the bitching and moaning you and I do won’t make TG change his mind. The hope is for a couple new engine manufacturers to come in and pour in some much-needed money and that Dallara will build something sexy and zoomy. - Robin Shiller

How 'bout you write how bad it is every day like you did when CCWS was suckin'?

-Southpilot
It's a RED FLAG to IRL teams, drivers and sponsors everytime they hear "wait until 2011". It's quite sickening and obvious why TG wants to wait. It has nothing to do with improvement of the car or openwheel racing. That is the year of his Mindy Centennial which he stupidly gave up everything to fund and now he can't bear that he may have killed the sport before he gets to celebrate its 100th birthday in Mindy. He knows how stupid he'll look. So instead of swallowing his pride, TG is trying to keep a 97 yr old legally dead patient on life support for 3 more years so he can say they lived to a hundred and throw the party of his lifetime!!!!! That is all he cares about. The rest is lies and lines that people in the business should know better than to accept. Is it in any way fair to all the drivers, teams, sponsors, employees, venues and cities? That kind of a wait under such circumstances will take its toll - a much heavier one than what he has already done this year to openwheel racing. Next year will be even worse for them than this year was, they will all get it by then. But it will be too late. The year after will be a total nightmare that most current drivers and teams will never recover from. By the time they get to 2011 there may be only 5-6 teams left - all verging on bankruptcy. And yet TG will smile as he lights the birthday candles and cuts the cake. As soon as the party is over, he'll say "Oh, I see it isn't going to improve" and he's going to pull the plug and leave them all high and dry (probably a sweet revenge against some that he secretly holds - we won't mention any names, Cap'n). He doesn't care about them and you can't run a business like that. In the end, no one will want to work for him. So any that ignore that HUGE RED FLAG which is being waved in their face daily, and stay on with him anyway, realizing that the sport is going to fail along with their own interests and future, then they will get what they deserve. On the other hand, if they are smart and see the writing on the wall NOW, and find ALMS or someone who is truly passionate and dedicated to openwheel to lead them (ie: Ben Johnson) then they might be part of a truly GOOD future that includes prosperity, opportunity and great racing. IMHO

Because no one bought the Earl as a replacement for ChampCar.

Is it that hard to put 2 and 2 together.
Bring in the Earl, out go the fans.

It has been proven time and time again.
Phoenix

Michigan
Indy for crying out loud.

I am not sure if you are truly that dumb, or just effing with us.

Has history not taught you anything?

Hell, I bet you believe that Kentucky WAS sold out, they were just getting hot dogs and the stuff. Parking, petting the corn, whatever.

Amazing.
